Don’t be surprised if you see the lights burning late into the night over at the University of Nebraska at Omaha this weekend.
UNO is one of two colleges (along with the University of Colorado in Boulder) hosting a 48-hour “hackathon” on cybersecurity Friday through Sunday.
As many as 100 people at the two campuses will form teams to come up with solutions to the problem of “Hacking Physical Cybersecurity.” On Sunday afternoon, the teams will get 15 to 20 minutes to present their plans to a panel of judges, including military officials from U.S. Strategic Command. They’ll compete for $15,000 in prizes and the chance to see their plan through with mentorship from MD5, a technology accelerator program launched in 2016 by the Department of Defense and several major universities.
